Glow Up!
Remember how that person described it? "Action game where you fight junk food monsters and collect fruits and veggies"? Yeah, that's like describing a really good cake as "flour and sugar." Technically true, but totally misses the point. It's so much more than that.
Honestly, when I first started, I was expecting some cheesy beat-em-up. I kept trying to like, punch the little shadowy Gloomy Glimmers that float around, thinking they were monsters. Nothing happened! I was so confused for a bit. But then I figured it out. You don't *fight* them. Your character, Pip, this little glowing sprout, just kinda... flows. You use your "Sparkle Dash" to elegantly glide around the Glimmers, not attack them. They're not enemies, they're more like distractions trying to dim your light.
And the "collecting fruits and veggies"? It's not just collecting. You're absorbing "Sunberries" and "Dewdrops" to keep Pip's "Glow Meter" full. If it drops too low, Pip gets all dull and sad, and the music gets kinda quiet. But when you get into a good rhythm, weaving through the "Whispering Willows" and grabbing everything, Pip just shines so bright, and the music swells with this really pretty, chill sound. It's like a puzzle game, but also super relaxing, almost meditative. Like, you're not fighting, you're just trying to keep your flow.
I'm not usually into games with a "message" but this isn't preachy at all. It's just a really clever way to make you feel good when you're playing. The first time I perfectly timed a dash through a cluster of Glimmers and Pip just burst with light, I literally gasped. It felt so good. I looked up and it was like, 3 AM. I was just gonna play for an hour!
It's like that game Journey, but instead of a desert, it's a super vibrant, glowing garden, and your goal is just to keep your little character bright and happy. I even told my coworker, Sarah, about it today, and she doesn't even play games, but I was like "you just gotta see it!" It's weird, but in the best way. Your character actually grows too, they get more leaves and little flowers. It's so cute. You just gotta try it.
